Class Description:
Gardening in Colorado is not for the faint of heart. Between late snow storms, hail, and our dry climate it can test the best gardener. Understanding how plants work in is vital to being a succesful gardener here.
Students will learn about the portions of botany relevant to growing a garden in Colorado. Topics like plant anatomy, identification, xeric plant selection, garden design, seed starting, and more will be covered. Students will be sketching garden designs, learning using a high school level coloring textbook, and working on the basics of landscape design on computers. The end goal of this class is that students will research, design, and be ready to plant herb, vegetable, and flower gardens using the gardening method of their choice.
All assignments will be posted in google classroom. Some writing or typing is required for the garden research handbook. All major projects will be able to be completed using the student’s choice of one of three methods: artistic means, written means, or as a voice over video presentation.
